“These paintings stem from a fascination with human-made structures. From purely functional buildings to considered architecture, whether old or new, demolished or imagined, these structures are my starting point.
“I’m drawn to the patterns and tensions in the inanimate forms, and look to organise the chaos.” - Lee Fether.
Lee Fether uses found images and photographs she has taken of iconic, now-demolished buildings (Thamesmead, Ferrier Estate) and places she has visited (Hepworth Museum).
Trained in Industrial Design at London’s Central School of Art and Design and inspired by Le Corbusier and Charles Sheeler, Fether remains fascinated by the considered geometry and shadow life of brutalist buildings and purely functional structures.
She identifies the beauty and harmony that is often overlooked in such architectures, reflecting the rawness of concrete and other building materials in her use of raw linen and stained or bared canvas.
