The gallery and art studio of painter, filmmaker and curator Aleksandra Niemczyk presents exhibitions of Blackheath, London and international artists. Situated opposite Hare and Billet Pond on the southwest corner of the heath, we invite you to drop by and enjoy our latest exhibition as an art lover or collector, or to pick out a unique gift.

Through groups and solo shows, artist residencies, pop up installations, open studio events, art workshops and more, Gallery White Box presents contemporary, vibrant, relevant and sometimes unconventional voices. Basia Karnicka Burrough

“Riverscapes”

31 October - 9 November 2025

Burrough works from her local surroundings, painting landscapes of the River Thames and parks around Greenwich and Deptford.

Exploring London’s urban landscapes with her brush, Burrough captures areas that are often seen as relics of the industrial past and that are beginning to disappear due to gentrification.

She works with oil paints on her own hand-stretched canvas, giving her complete control over her materials and facilitating a bold array of original colours.

Artist biography

After studying and teaching at Camberwell Art School and casting for Ivor Abrahams, Basia Karnicka Burrough relocated to the U.S., specialising in mural decorative features for architectural projects with William Mitchell Design. She returned to Europe and the UK as a teacher, and has focussed on painting for the past 25 years.
